The Meringues
The Meringues are a post-punk powerhouse known for their explosive live shows and captivating stage presence. At the heart of The Meringues are Amanda Pants and Ted Evans sharing lead vocals. Their onstage antics create a must-watch dynamic that blurs the line between playful banter and an intense rivalry. This unique interaction has become a defining characteristic of the band and their live shows.
The Meringues also feature Jackson Baird on bass, and Alastair Morrison on drums. The two provide a solid foundation to complement and support Ted and Amanda's electrifying presence.
The band's intense delivery of each song creates a thrilling atmosphere where the entire show can seem like it's about to spiral out of control. However, beneath all the chaos lies a band with a clear vision and purpose. The Meringues craft their music with a blend of catchy, memorable melodies and fiercely sharp lyrics. Their songs strike to the core of relationship dysfunction.
Their dynamic presence has earned them opportunities to open for established artists like Protest the Hero, D.O.A., and to perform at festivals such as NXNE, Canadian Music Week, and Spring Reverb. The band's acclaim is further highlighted by charting across Canada on college radio and winning Best Music Video for "The Lottery" at the Kingston Canadian Film Festival in 2020.
Their sophomore album, Pavlova's Dog, explores the intersection The Meringues have created at fun and dysfunction. Spanning from deep and dark psychological themes to playful, child-like perspectives, the album features 11 songs that weave these elements together seamlessly. The Meringues reveal their true essence as a band on this album, capturing the complexity of human relationships and the dark undercurrents of self-doubt and personal struggle. Pavlova's Dog is set to solidify The Meringues' place in the post-punk landscape, showcasing their focused energy and artistic prowess.
